The Yellow Water Jug

Friday, March 12, 2010

I wrote this a few years ago about my maw maw & paw paw, and just thought I'd share it with you.

The Yellow Water Jug

The yellow water jug
holds the cold Scurry water.
The Scurry water
is used to make Maw Maw's sweet tea.
The sweet tea
which we drink over long conversations on the back porch.
The back porch
holds precious memories of my childhood.
My childhood,
when I made mud pies and played "ouchie awchie" with Maw & Paw.
Maw & Paw,
who taught me about life, love, and sweet country music.
The music
fills the house where the yellow water jug stays.

Things You Don't Grow Out Of

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

I cannot wait until Saturday gets here & we head up North on I-45, East on 34, & North on 148, where we will end up in the great town of Crandall-population 4,000... no red lights, three restaurants, one Dairy Queen, 7 or 8 churches, and a place I call home.  I was born & raised in Crandall; I lived in the same house for 18 years.  I can drive the backroads of Kaufman County with my eyes closed!

Gonna take it back to the old school.....

I won't bored you with anymore pics from life in Crandall, but I will give you the lyrics to the song that is my theme this weekend.  If you haven't heard it, well, it's amazing!

Things You Don't Grow Out Of
By: The Lost Trailers

Still Love the smell of mamas house when somethings cookin on the stove

Still hug her neck when its time to go, leavins always tough
Oh, theres some things you dont grow out of

I made a name here in this town with my right arm underneath the lights
And the trophies take me back to those Friday nights
I cant bring myself to box em up, yeah, theres some things you dont grow out of

Like Your mamas love your biggest dream that little town you had to leave
And all of those sweet memories of growing up wild and free
The Sunday morning ringing bells, the preachers words, the way it felt
And to this day I get my help from up above, yeah, theres some things you dont grow out of
Im older now and Ive seen some things, learned that life can sure be mean
But I try not to let the world rub off on me, I remember where I come from
Cause theres some things you dont grow out of

Like the lessons learned from the time you spent with your grandpa just you and him
The innocence of another time I still go back there in my mind to Sunday morning ringing bells
The preachers words, the way it felt and to this day I get my help from up above
Yeah, theres some things you don’t grow out of
Yeah, theres some things you don’t grow out of

Like Your mamas love your biggest dream that little town you had to leave
And all of those sweet memories of growing up wild and free
The Sunday morning ringing bells, the preachers words, the way it felt
And to this day I get my help from up above, yeah, theres some things you dont grow out of
Im older now and Ive seen some things, learned that life can sure be mean
But I try not to let the world rub off on me, I remember where I come from
Cause theres some things you dont grow out of

Here are three people I will never grow out of....
Abby, my best friend since 6th grade, Momma, & Daddy
I'll add a 4th person, who wasn't around when they took this pic, but it's my hubby, Matt.

What are some things you won't ever grow out of???

"It's the Country that Saves Me"

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Five days until Spring Break! Can you say hallelujah!?!?!  I have never been more in need of this break, especially after last week...TAKS testing, 4 nights working with dance team until 7:00, taking 124 seventh graders on a field trip, and then spending all day Saturday at competition...just reading it makes me tired.  I never want to live that week again.  The week ended on a good note-after spending numerous nights with the dance team getting ready for competition, they were awarded Grand Champions at the Showtime competition on Saturday night.

Today, I spent most of my day recovering from the week.  Laundry is done, the house is clean, and I've organized inventory for The Barn Door.  Matt & I fried up some backstrap tonight & dang, was it good!

I am so looking forward to getting through this week!  Saturday Matt & I are planning on heading to Crandall for a couple of days.  I can't wait to see my family & spend a few days out in the country.  I love going home-my momma's home cooking, listening to my daddy's crazy stories, sittin' on my maw & paw's back porch drinkin' her famous sweet tea, and hanging out with all the crazy Cousins, oh & did I mention miles & miles of nothing?!?!  It will be the highlight of my month!

The rest of Spring Break I plan on getting a few projects done around the house & getting ready for The Barn Door Sneak Peek Show on Saturday, March 20th!  Do you have any plans for the break???

A few pictures of home!

Momma, the best woman I know.  Do we look alike?

I hope you and yours had a wonderful weekend & pray that the good Lord blesses you this week!

Rodeo Cook-Off 2010

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Well we survived cook-off! Man, I can't hang like I use to that's for sure.  Matt & I represented Specialty Heat Treat, Inc. on Thursday and Friday at the Tejas Barbacoa tent!

Abby wasn't able to make it down for the cook-off, because she was a little under the weather.  Although I was sad she didn't get to come, my college roommate, Maegan, came into town, as well as my wonderful friend Jenny!  Maegan & I roomed together my Sophomore year at A&M.  Man, did we have some great times!  It was so awesome to see her beautiful face & hear her laugh! Jenny & Jared were representin' at the Smokin' Amigos tent. They drove in from New Braunfels & I was so glad to see her face!  It was so nice to catch up with them, but I wish we could've spent more time together.

Grady Skelton Band played on Friday night & man did they put on one heck of a show!  My little Mexican burrito, Jose, plays bass in the band.  We were like peas & carrots in college!  We shared some good times together & it's always great to party with him.

I'm sad that I didn't take more pictures, but here are a few! Enjoy!

For those of you wantin' to see some Houston cowboys, sorry, I didn't do any people watchin' on this trip, but I promise to when Matt & I head out to see Brad Paisley & Blake Shelton next week.
